‘What would happen if society fully recognised and validated human variation’

ROSEMARIE GARLAND-THOMSON (2005)

As someone who has recently become a part of the disabled community, I have been exploring my own identity under the new label that society has placed upon me.

I have been interested in the socially constructed ideals of what makes an ‘attractive’ body and how this can be even more challenging when being disabled and identifying as female due to the expectation’s society places on women in relation to body image. This body of work aims to contradict preconceived judgements based upon societies definition of disabled, embracing and empowering the female disabled body.
